Four more hours work (well three really, one was spent trying and failing to find some sprues to much cursing).
At this stage I'm trying to add life to the piece on top of the basic shell of the structure, and this part is the most fun but in many ways also the most time consuming.
Most of the task as I see it is to break up the large shapes and flat areas in creative ways. In general this needs to be inventively non-repetitive, however some repetition is absolutely necessary - both to provide the realism of what is in theory a mass-produced uniform kind of environment and also as a kind of leitmotiv that ties disparate modular pieces together when setup.
More WIP detail after the jump.
The crate buried in the corner there (beige) is part of the "breathing life" thing. As far as I can tell on every real ship ever, every single available space finds a way to be converted into storage for something or other by the crew. This will be turned into a stack, and if I can find a way to make a cargo net over it I'll do that too.
Those mdf lattice vent frames are one of the more obvious motifs I was referencing. Available from Fenris and I absolutely love them. The down-lighters in the middle pic below converted from citadel modular base-plate rails (long long oop) are another.
More of this stuff and green stuff next.
